The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition 2018-2019 Is Launched !

The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition is the largest entrepreneurship competition in the United States run by and for high school students. Every year, teams pitch their innovative business concepts to experienced entrepreneurs and business-people, receive feedback on their ideas, join a community of like-minded students, and compete for thousands in cash prizes!

This competition was founded in Maryland in 2014 by a young budding high school entrepreneur directly inspired by Kim and Mauborgne’s Blue Ocean Strategy and the blue ocean way of thinking. It has since evolved from a countywide competition with 30 teams to the largest student-led high school entrepreneurship competition in the US with 250+ teams from more than 90+ schools and 23 states and six other countries in 2018.

In the last couple of years, the competition received the support of sponsors ranging from Morgan Stanley to Wawa, Marcum LLP, and CitizenM Hotels to the Baton Rouge Business Report and Baltimore Gas and Electrics. Their support is a testament to the encouragement given to young blue ocean entrepreneurs, who are learning to solve new problems in new ways in business and the nonprofit space.

The competition is now accepting applicants from high school students through both its website or via text messaging (Text “blue ocean” to (855) 700-8689).

To participate, just submit a 3 to 5 minutes video describing your idea. If you are unsure about how to pitch or if you have any question, have a look at last year’s 10 finalists and other participants videos or check out the FAQs here. All pitches should be submitted by December 31, 2018.

The judges (experienced entrepreneurs, business leaders and those in education communities) will begin evaluating pitches in January 2019. Prizes range from $1,000 for first place to $500 for third, and a $1,000 Prize to the top 3 schools who bring in the most submissions (minimum of 5). If you know any high school student who might be interested thanks for sharing this news. It would be great to get them involved.

This year’s competition includes a “People’s Choice” award of $750.To win, simply receive the most likes on your pitch video on the competition’s YouTube channel “Blue Ocean Competition”. Direct your friends and student peers to your video there once submitted!

All winners will be announced on March 15, 2019.

Good luck to all the young blue ocean entrepreneurs!
